ACC to enhance economic and tourism cooperation with Thailand

First Vice Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, Nabil Al-Khatib, discussed at the Chamber’s premises with the Deputy Thai Ambassador to the Kingdom, Adisak Jantatum, mechanisms for developing the two countries’ economic relations in a way that contributes to pushing their trade exchanges to higher levels.
Al-Khatib stressed that Jordan is keen to strengthen its economic relations with Thailand and take them to higher levels, calling for exchanging bilateral experiences and benefiting from the Kingdom’s position as an attractive region for investment and a crossing point to the markets of countries in the region.
He said that the Chamber is looking forward to increasing the prospects for bilateral trade between the two countries and exchanging visits by economic delegations, holding exhibitions, and joint economic events to introduce and promote available investment opportunities, especially in the sectors of food, tourism, electronics, and hand-made furniture.
He stressed the need to support existing tourism cooperation opportunities between Jordan and Thailand, and discuss possible ways to encourage tourism and link tourism and travel companies and agents to promote the two countries tourism, noting the importance of signing a memorandum of understanding between the Amman Chamber of Commerce and its counterpart in the Kingdom of Thailand to be a starting point for both sides in order to enhance cooperation. For his part, Jantatum expressed his pride in the friendship between Jordan and the Kingdom of Thailand, which reflects positively on the strength of joint cooperation relations and the improvement of trade exchange rates, stressing his support for all efforts that would enhance trade exchange between the two friendly countries.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Thai Consul, Samerjit Limliket, he stated that the Bangkok Chamber of Commerce has a desire to sign a memorandum of understanding with its counterpart, the Amman Chamber of Commerce, in order to raise the level of coordination and cooperation between the two countries in the field of trade and investment.
He proposed holding a Jordanian-Thai business forum in the capital, Amman, next May, in cooperation with the Thai Embassy in Amman and the Chamber, to enhance networking between the business community and explore commercial opportunities.
Jantatom pointed out the intention of a delegation representing the tourism sector on the Thai island of Phuket to visit Jordan to showcase the tourism product on the island, after participating in the Arab Travel and Tourism Forum (ATM), which will be held in Dubai next May, and the delegation’s desire to meet tourism and travel agents in Jordan. To exchange information and experiences to promote tourism between the two countries
For his part, Director General of the Chamber, Hisham Al-Dweik, pointed out that the trade balance between the two countries is still below ambitions and leans in favor of the Kingdom of Thailand, as the value of Jordanian exports during the year 2022 amounted to about 32 million dollars, compared to 221 million dollars in imports, stressing the need for the Thai embassy to work on Coordinating with the Chamber regarding any economic activities it wishes to organize in the Kingdom.
