Amman Chamber of Commerce explores trade opportunities in Uzbekistan

Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce Khalil El-Haj Tawfiq stressed the need to explore economic, trade and service opportunities, find non-traditional markets and explore new areas of cooperation between Jordan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, to increase their trade exchanges.

 

During a virtual meeting with the Jordanian Ambassador to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Dimay Haddad, in the presence of Vice Chairmen Nabil Al-Khatib and Bahjat Hamdan and Deputy Secretary Falah Al-Saghir, Al-Haj Tawfiq pointed out the role that the Jordanian Embassy in Uzbekistan can play in providing a database on exportable goods and the needs of the Uzbek market for goods and services.

 

According to a statement by the Chamber, the meeting came to follow up on the outcomes of a previous meeting between an official Uzbek delegation that visited the Amman Chamber of Commerce, with the aim of assessing the volume of trade exchanges and addressing obstacles to trade exchange between the two countries, and drawing the features of a new phase of cooperation at the private sector level to advance the two countries' trade exchanges and establish investment partnerships.

 

El-Haj Tawfiq explained that it was agreed that the Jordanian Embassy in Tashkent would make arrangements to hold specialized virtual meetings "for the sectors of trade, services, information technology, tourism, transportation, food and other sectors, with its Uzbek counterparts, in coordination with the Chamber of Commerce in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, so that the Chamber can evaluate the outcomes of these meetings and identify the most important goods and services that can be used to enter the Uzbek markets, and opportunities to attract Uzbek investments to Jordan, in preparation for an official Jordanian trade delegation to visit the Republic of Uzbekistan.

 

He explained that the two countries' trade exchanges are still less than aspirations, despite the availability of opportunities and capabilities, which requires more efforts to improve them, and find effective tools that contribute to activating them and removing any difficulties that hinder the flow of goods in both directions.

 

For his part, Ambassador Haddad indicated that Jordan is keen to establish good relations with all friendly countries, and that the Republic of Uzbekistan enjoys a special position in these relations, and we appreciate Highly appreciating the efforts of the Jordanian private sector in enhancing cooperation between the two friendly countries, and its keenness to develop economic and trade relations.

 

He stressed his readiness to fully cooperate with the Amman Chamber of Commerce and its counterpart in the Uzbek capital to provide services that would facilitate trade between the two friendly countries, pointing out that the visit of a Jordanian trade delegation to Uzbekistan provides an opportunity to discuss ways to enhance trade exchange between the two countries and discover new opportunities for cooperation in various fields.

 

Ambassador Haddad pointed out that the Uzbek economy depends mainly on agriculture, textiles, clothing, cotton, dried fruits, canned food of all kinds, and pharmaceutical industries, as they have a city for pharmaceutical industries.

 

He pointed out that there are some obstacles to increasing trade exchange between the two countries, the most important and first of which is the transportation obstacle due to the lack of direct flights between the two countries, but it is possible to overcome all obstacles if there is the will and the possibility of providing alternative commercial transport lines.

 

For their part, the members of the Board of Directors stressed that the visit of a Jordanian trade delegation from various commercial sectors to the Republic of Uzbekistan is an important event that enhances bilateral relations between the Kingdom and the Republic of Uzbekistan, and confirms the common desire to enhance cooperation in various fields, especially economic, commercial and investment fields.

 

They pointed out the need to support tourism cooperation opportunities and introduce the tourism product, especially religious tourism, and facilitate the flow of tourists between the two countries, and work to promote Uzbekistan as a tourist destination through Jordanian tourism companies that are members of the Chamber, in addition to promoting Jordan as a tourist destination through the Uzbek side.

 

They pointed out the importance of transportation in the trade exchange process and proposing alternatives to land commercial transport lines via Turkey and Iraq, stressing their keenness to expand the frameworks of cooperation and coordination between the Chamber and its counterpart in Tashkent, which will positively reflect on economic relations and increase trade exchange.
